Lets talk about chakras: The Throat

For millions of years people have documented their knowledge and research about working with the chakras and the health benefits it provides to the mind and body. The chakras help one to connect with their own personal spirituality. Studies have said that we have hundreds energy centers in our bodies and energetic fields. I will be addressing the 7 commonly known chakras, The Root, The Sacral, The Solar Plexus, The Heart, The Throat, The Third Eye and The Crown in 7 different article post. Identified as spinning wheels that contain our subconscious energy located on different areas of the body, from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Each individual chakra is connected to organs in the body, emotions, mental attitude, and physical health. They are also connected to certain colors and sounds. The chakras energy is said to hold our consciousness within them, that can be tapped into by doing a lot of special exercises dedicated for each chakra. Our chakra's energy are affected by how we choose to live our lives and tend to our over all well-being. As one learns to connect and work with each chakra you will bring about a deeper level of healing, wisdom and spiritual awareness. 

In this article I will be speaking about The Throat chakra. Located on the throat of the body above the Heart charka, If you have not yet read about The Heart, I recommend you read the previous chakra articles made to learn more about how they work and what you can do to strengthen all your chakras. The Throat chakra is where you are able to express your self, this is where the truth is hidden. The throat chakra is the fifth chakra and in western knowledge it is blue. This chakra is said to have 16 purple and grey flower petals and a blue triangle with a white circle in the middle. This chakra is all about self expression and communication.

In Sanskrit the Throat chakra is called “Vishuddha” which translates to “purification”. When healthy the Throat chakra allows one to let go and release energy that no longer serves ones life. When unhealthy one can hold guilt and anxiety due to lack of self expression. When the chakra bright and has positive energy around one feels confident in who they are and what they have to say. When the chakra is healthy and open one is able to let go of things easier. Releasing any negative feelings such as guilt, anxiety and fears. When we are able to learn from our mistakes, the mistakes of others and are able to express our emotions in a positive and healthy manner. This chakra is all about being in the moment and mindful of your actions and words. Our words come out freely and with confidence, there is no need to feel attached to any situation. 

When the chakra is unbalanced and uncared for the opposite happens, one feels a large amount of guilt, fear and anxiety about the past, present and future. One must learn to accept the past and forget about the future because there is one today. It is believed that when this chakra is unhealthy the opposite happens, one is no longer present in the moment and is focused on the anxiety of what the future may hold and what might come out of it. When focused too much on the past and the guilt of past mistakes, actions and traumatic situations that may have already happened creates a fear for the future and no time to enjoy the present. Communication is unclear and that causes one to feel like a knot in their throat, with the desire to say what you feel but the fear of how it may be taken by another. It is believed that this chakra when balanced or unbalanced can affect ones livelihood in the long run. 

There are a few exercises you can do to improve your Throat chakra and allow yourself to release any negative energies surrounding it. Sitting alone in a private room with your notebook and writing down all the things you feel is holding you back, write down everything that you wish to tell someone, what you wish to tell yourself and being completely honest with yourself for once without the judgment of others. You can keep this paper or completely destroy it because ones your words are spoken out loud or written down you release a lot of energy you have been holding on to for sometime now. Allowing you to feel free and open. If writing isn't your style, mediation is another way to face your thoughts, spending time using the mantra for the throat and allowing you to acknowledge your emotions and fears in result releasing that energy and letting go of your attachments to them. Working with crystals during mediation can help increase your connection to the energy of this chakra. Amazonite protects one from negative thoughts and restores emotional balance while Lapis Lazuli restores your ability to commentate more properly, and Aquamarine encourages courage while removing feelings of fear. 

A healthy diet is a great way to encourage a positive energetic cycle for your chakras. For the throat you will be eating food that supports the brain such as different nuts and seeds, blue like colored fruits and vegetables like blackberries, blueberries, plums, purple grapes and purple carrots and potatoes if available in stores or farmer markets near you. A balanced diet to enourage a good nutrition to the brain will help with not only the throat chakra but your overall way of life.

To keep your The Throat chakra bright and healthy, mediation is a very important task when working with your own energy. Working directly with this chakra and opening its energy in a positive way can help one learn to communicate their emotions without the guilt of how others may take it promoting a more successful lifestyle as a whole. As I continue this new mini series of the chakras feel free to ask questions and come back to read about our next chakra I will be writing about will be The Third Eye Chakra.
